A LITTLE PERSPECTIVE

Wind mitigation: what actually earns credits?

Wind mitigation credits depend on documented construction features and your insurer’s rating rules. A new roof or impact-window claim by itself does not establish every credit. The inspection provides evidence for the insurer to review; savings are not guaranteed.

What gets documented?

The Florida verification form evaluates applicable construction details, including roof covering, roof-deck attachment, roof-to-wall connections, roof geometry, secondary water resistance, and opening protection. Each feature needs support. The current form also includes fields for region, roof slope, and FORTIFIED certification.

Why does paperwork matter?

Bring roof permits, installation records, product approvals, and window or shutter documentation where available. Accessible labels and inspection photos can also support the findings. A feature that cannot be verified may not be documented the same way as one with clear evidence.

For example, a roof-covering replacement does not establish the type of roof-to-wall connections. Likewise, protecting some windows does not prove that every applicable opening meets the reporting requirements.

When should I update my wind report?

Florida’s form is valid for up to five years if there are no material changes or inaccuracies. A roof replacement, added protection, structural alteration, or relevant damage may make an earlier update appropriate. Ask your agent before relying on an older report.

What does Sunday charge?

A standalone wind mitigation inspection is $150. Combine it with a 4-point in one insurance-only visit for $250. With a full home inspection, add wind mitigation for $100, or both insurance reports for $150. You receive your inspection report the same day.

Send the completed report to your insurance agent. The inspection does not set the premium, establish flood risk, or certify that the home is hurricane-proof.
